ReGift Glass
ReGift Glass is a limited edition handmade vessel that was created using a mold donated to the Toledo Museum of Art Glass Studio by Libbey Glass. Artist Beth Lipman also used this mold to create architectural details found in the exhibition ReGift, conceptually triangulating the personal lives of Edward Drummond and Florence Scott Libbey with their business (Libbey Glass) and the Museum that they founded. This vessel will be available for purchase during the duration of the exhibition.
ReGift encompasses a site-specific sculptural installation, a film that is a fictional portrait of Florence Scott Libbey by Atesh Atici, and public programs that revive aspects of the City Beautiful Movement, an urban planning effort that flourished in the late 19th century. ReGift is on view in gallery 18, August 12, 2023 - September 1, 2024.
Toledo Museum of Art - Glass Pavilion
Opened in 2006, the postmodern Glass Pavilion is home to TMA's world-renowned glass collection, featuring more than 5,000 works of art from ancient to contemporary times.
The 74,000-square-foot building also includes galleries for special glass exhibitions, artist studios, demonstration areas, and spaces for education, visitor relaxation, and special events.
The Glass Pavilion is-in itself-a work of art. All exterior and nearly all interior walls consist of large panels of curved glass, resulting in a transparent structure that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. Designed by Tokyo-based SANAA, Ltd., the Glass Pavilion received Travel + Leisure's 2007 Design Award for "Best Museum" and received other accolades for its innovative architecture.
