Heart Cakes (Valentine Cakes, Four Valentine Cakes) is a still-life depicting a quadrant of pleasant, white cakes with a red frosting heart decoration on each top. Thiebaud accomplishes a thoroughly texturized look on the white frosting of each cake through his impasto technique. The whiteness of each cake is differentiated from the similiarly colored background through the frosting texture and by the opulently blue shadowing.
