Tiffany Grape Silk Tie
A glowing Fox & Chave silk tie after an element from a stained-glass panel of grapes on the vine by the American artist and designer Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933).
Tiffany rendered this, and many of his lamps and decorative glassware using Favrile glass, a development he patented himself. Signified by its iridescence, it is a vibrant art glass with shimmering colors that shift in the light.
Favrile glass was innovative at the time because the color was embedded in the glass itself rather than just applied as a surface finish, giving it depth and a unique luminosity.
This particular panel also shows idiosyncratic touches by Tiffany, with the grapes sometimes rendered as glass and sometimes as lead, with the flashing also varying in thickness for a more organic representation.
