"Is It Heavy?"
2022
Flashe, acrylic, oil, pumice and flex paste on canvas
14" x 11"

These works were created during my residency at the Vermont Studio Center in the summer of 2022. They reflect a period of material experimentation and a conceptual grappling with the emotional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The mound-like shapes symbolize both a confronting boulder-an impossible weight to bear-and a comforting pile of blankets, all expressed through bright, hopeful color palettes.

Materially, the works feature rough, textured surfaces, where oil and acrylic paints seem to struggle for control. This tension creates paintings that are gritty, resilient, and playful, evoking abstract landscapes and the emotional terrain of that time.
