Media artist Nam Jun Paik broke the rules of both art and television by bridging the gap between the two. NAM JUN PAIK: LESSONS FROM THE VIDEO MASTER offers three films that reveal not only the artist but also the human being. Video artist Skip Blumberg s title film features 47 stylized but insightful interviews with Paik s friends, collaborators, and protégés. Recorded at the artist s memorial service, the film brings together such art-world luminaries as Merce Cunningham, Yoko Ono, and Paik s nephew, Ken Paik Hakuta. In addition, the BONUS ART VIDEO contains 17 additional interviews from New York City s art community, including those from video-art curator David Ross and indie-film pioneer Jonas Mekas. Rounding out this rare film is a video-within-a-video of Yoko Ono s special performance for Paik at the Guggenheim Museum and a nine-minute short version of LESSONS FROM THE VIDEO MASTER suitable for high-school and middle-school students.
