Gina Wolfrum
Gina Wolfrum is an award-winning mixed media artist specializing in landscapes and other works that capture the play of light on water, evoke the magic of the natural world, and ask viewers to challenge their preconceptions about nature, beauty, and themselves.
Born in Bryan, Ohio, and raised on a family farm nearby, Gina holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Defiance College and a graduate degree in bank and finance management from the University of Colorado's Graduate School of Banking. After 15 years in banking, Gina left her corporate career and relocated to a farm in rural Defiance County, Ohio, with her husband and two sons. During this time of tremendous change, Gina rediscovered her artistic roots when an interior designer introduced her to the world of decorative art and murals. Building on early art lessons as a teenager, Gina honed her skills by training at studios throughout the United States. As she bult a new career in the fine and decorative arts, Gina developed her unique understanding of color, texture, and natural elements.
As Gina's fine art pieces began garnering attention from galleries, national exhibitions, and private commissions, she shifted her focus exclusively to mixed media, combining paint and intricately placed stony textures. A defining feature of Gina's art is sparkle. As a child, Gina nearly drowned during a family vacation, and to this day, she vividly remembers being captivated by the shimmering light beckoning above as she thrashed in the deep water below.
Gina was saved by her father who dove in after her. Through her art, Gina channels those strangely beautiful but frightening memories into works of splendor. Inspired by nature - and a profound respect for the water - most of Gina's pieces are adorned with semiprecious gemstones, glass, and other organic materials like mica that evoke the sparkle of light on water.
Gina's artwork is showcased in numerous galleries throughout the Great Lakes Region, and her solo shows continue to attract collectors and gallery patrons. Gina has won the People's Choice award at the Ohio State Fair, the state's largest exhibition. Gina is also a regular participant in ArtPrize, one of the country's largest art exhibits, held annually in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she has been recognized as one of the top 25 artists for several years. Her renowned Gemstone Series is highly sought after by collectors nationwide and was recently featured on the PBS show "Arts IN Focus". Her work has also appeared in various trade journals, including " Spotlight 32 Contemporary Art".
In this collection, I invite viewers to explore the dynamic interplay between nature's beauty and the shimmering details woven throughout each painting. The use of gemstones, mica, and glass is intentional-not merely for aesthetic appeal, but to encourage a deeper engagement with the work. From different vantage points, these materials catch the light and transform the scene, offering shifting perspectives that echo nature's own fluidity.
Just as sunlight dances across water or glints off dewy leaves, life itself is full of subtle variations revealed only when we change how we look at it. These paintings challenge viewers to pause, step closer, and adjust their stance, discovering new elements and textures hidden within the composition. This experience is a metaphor for life: by shifting our perspectives, even slightly, we can uncover beauty, insight, and meaning that might otherwise go unnoticed. Through this collection, I hope to spark moments of curiosity and contemplation, reminding us that wonder often lies in the smallest changes and unexpected angles.
