My original background since the 1970's has been rooted in traditional drawing and painting media, however, for the last 18 years I have held positions in graphic design, so I feel comfortable in either realm. The emphasis on my digital work has been mainly in original design, layout creation, and logo design using the Adobe Creative Suite Programs (CS3, CS4 & CS5) along with a few 3-D and special effects oriented programs. My fine art work is in collections throughout the United States.
Artist Statement
In this age of image appropriation and digitally manipulated art, my intention was to create pieces that show expression and elements of human imperfection. I would like this work to grab the viewers' attention without providing literal or realistic references, only pure artistic elements. Hopefully, the viewers will bring their own interpretation to the work.
The materials and processes for making these pieces are as important to me as the end result. I am inviting everyone to see paint as paint and texture as real texture, not something that is synthetic or painstakingly created to imitate those qualities.
Various substrates were utilized in my art production including paper, board and unstretched, unprimed canvas. At times I would use one surface as a "plate" for several other pieces, creating two or three pieces at a time, layering paint and textures. Since this art was created in an outdoor studio, allowing elements such as dirt, twigs or leaves to fall into the paint played a role in creating the pieces…a collaboration between artist and natural elements.
