The Orange Sulphur

Renowned for her scientific accuracy and artistic elegance, Dutch painter RacheI Ruysch(1664-1750) often featured butterflies and other insects in her flower still life paintings.

The Clouded Yellow Butterfly (Colias croceus), a member of the Pieridae family, is commonly found throughout Europe. The butterfly's radiant hues and delicate structure reflect the natural beauty Ruysch captured so meticulously in her compositions. Symbolically, the Clouded Yellow's migratory behavior-marked by Iona-distance travels and periodic mass migrations known as "Clouded Yellow years" - evokes themes of freedom, wanderlust, and the fleeting nature of life.
