I had a solo show at the University of Indianapolis in 2022 which included a dozen small wall relief sculptures, which made me want to continue in the round. About that time I saw a photo of Giacometti in his studio surrounded by small sculptures which were done as theme and variation, which seemed like the right process. I wanted something boxy looking and found a supplier for small wooden boxes, then began drawing reductive cut-a-ways of the box shape. Planning to someday cast or fabricate these I created the metallic look with metal leaf set on dark bases which have the rough look of a leather "Bomber" jacket, which led to the series title...
