Beth Lipman: ReGift Front Matter
ReGift Front Matter is a limited-edition handmade glass book that embodies the initial inspiration for ReGift, a 1917 drawing found on the bookplate that belonged to Edward Drummond and Florence Scott Libbey. ReGift Front Matter features the Libbey's bookplate prominently on the front cover of the glass book, rather than on the inside endpaper of a book where it is typically located and complements the multi-faceted project by artist Beth Lipman, currently on view at the Toledo Museum of Art. The books are made with traditional kiln forming techniques- cutting, fusing, slumping, and fused decal application and cold working, including grinding and cold fusion. This edition will be available for purchase during the duration of the exhibition.
ReGift encompasses a site-specific sculptural installation, a film that is a fictional portrait of Florence Scott Libbey by Atesh Atici, and public programs that revive aspects of the City Beautiful Movement, an urban planning effort that flourished in the late 19th century. ReGift is on view in gallery 18, August 12, 2023 - September 1, 2024.
