Anne Abate
Anne Abate was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and attended Wayne State University. She has a BFA in painting and drawing. She now lives in Toledo, Ohio, having retired from the Toledo Blade after nearly 20 years as an editor on the editorial board and newsroom copy desk. Prior to that she worked at the Detroit News in a similar capacity for almost 22 years, where she did some writing and contributed an occasional illustration. At Wayne State she studied with notable area artists such as Robert Wilbert, Patricia Quinlan, John Hegarty and Jim Nawara, all of whom have greatly influenced her path. She has exhibited her work many times in various venues such as the prestigious Toledo Museum of Art Show, 20 North Gallery, Hudson Gallery, and others, and has won a number of awards. Anne has also exhibited her work with the Toledo Artists Club, where she is a member.
