Cody Winter - Regional Artist
Cody R. Winter was raised within the small farming community of Riga, Michigan; a place where life progressed at a slower pace and the bucolic, Midwestern scenery was never too far away. Growing up, he was considerably fascinated by the arts, which was the foremost influence on choosing his major upon entering Lourdes University. After graduating in 2015, he would begin his career within the art world; always striving to be surrounded by his craft he would continue to create. His premier inspiration continues to be the work of the old masters, in particular: Martin Johnson Heade's sublimity, George Inness' intrigue, Frederic Edwin Church's verisimilitude, and Claude Monet's sense of color being his greatest influences.
From the initial meditation of a beautiful scene at hand to the finalizing touches; painting is a thrilling, albeit immensely challenging process that can never be fully perfected. Though this process is relatively the same, each painting is a new challenge with its own set of problems awaiting their ultimate resolution. I have always begun the same way; by studying reality and its intricacies firsthand. From there, I take a reference photo and largely work from memory, with the photograph to sparingly assist along the way. I intend for my work to be direct, minimalistic, quietly grand, and beautiful. This exalted medium is always evolving, with the artist as innovator by creating their works of art. The innovation I present to you - the viewer, are original pieces that build upon the permanence of a timeless past, invite you to behold the beauty of the Midwestern landscape of the present, and evoke rational contemplation of the future.
